Chapter 139

Ca**ius was staring at Evadne, his eyes deep and mysterious.

His sister was a pro at seizing opportunities. She never played by the rules, and she was always ready to break them.

Given a slim chance, she could turn the tables, create bigger gains, and catch h er opponents off–guard.

George’s face changed. He hadn’t expected Evadne to ask him that.

“From the look on your face, you must know something.” Evadne said coldly, a s mirk playing on her l*ps.

“I know.” George swallowed hard, stuttering. “Because the child is mine…”

The Ashbourne siblings were taken aback.

Evadne’s hand clenched excitedly. This storm had brought her great benefits.

“What happened exactly? Tell me.” Ca**ius demanded in a frosty voice.

“I used to be a personal trainer at a high– end gym overseas. That’s where I met Acacia and we grew closer. She was a real seductress, and we ended up together.”

Evadne’s eyes were full of curiosity. “Go on.”

“But we never made it official, it was a casual thing. Acacia was never short of g uys. I was just one of them. One time, we took some stuff, and she let loose. I didn’t take precautions, and she took the mornin g–after pill, but those things aren’t 100% safe. She found out she was pregnant not long after.”

Evadne blinked, so Acacia was into drugs. That was a surprise.

“Given Acacia’s character, she wouldn’t have wanted to keep the child. How com e she did?”

“She said her health was fragile, that if she had an abortion, she wouldn’t be able to have kids anymore. She said no rich family would accept a barren daug hter–in–law, so she had to tough it out and have the baby.”

George couldn’t resist a jab at Acacia, “She was very skilled in bed. You couldn’t tell she was weak.”

That was a sore spot for Evadne. But she quickly composed herself, asking calml y, “Where’s the child now?”

“I only know she’s in an orphanage overseas. She should be two or three years ol d now. That’s a little girl. that’s all I know.”

George wasn’t hiding anything, but he was so selfish that he had never visited hi s own daughter. That was all the information he had.

“You people being parents is an insult to all parents.” Ca**ius couldn’t contain h is anger, “That’s your child. You just threw her away like garbage, out of sight, ou t of mind?”

“I didn’t completely ignore her. I heard that Acacia’s mother has been keeping tabs on my daughter. My child was taken away as soon as she was born! That woman must know where my daughter is!” George couldn’t stand the pressure and spilled some more information.

Evadne’s bright eyes twinkled. She had an idea. Then she turned to her brother.

They shared an understanding look, knowing what the other was thinking without exchanging a word.

Just then, the basement door opened and a b*dyguard walked in briskly with Ge orge’s phone.

“Miss, you have a call.”

Evadne took the phone. Looking at the screen, she asked coldly, “Ahley, who is it ?”

George shivered, swallowing nervously. “It’s Acacia.”

“Answer it. You talk to her.”

Evadne held out the phone to him, her eyes icy, “Don’t try to deceive. Don’t misspeak. Act normal , and don’t alert her.”

George nodded quickly.

After answering the call, he said, “Hello, Ahley. What do you need at this hour? D id you miss me?”

“Cut the crap.” Acacia paused, then asked in a low voice, “You haven’t been causing any trouble for me lately, have you? I told you not to act without my say–so. You didn’t go off on your own, did you?”

George had no choice but to lie, “No, of course not. I wouldn’t do anything witho ut your say–so.”

Evadne lowered her long lashes, a cold smile playing on her l*ps.

So, it was George acting on his own, coming to her privately. That was why things turned out this way.

He was in a rush to get money, so he wanted to get rid of her as soon as possible , to trade her life for a reward from Acacia.

What a dumsy accomplice.

“Don’t touch Evadne for now. Wait for my word.”

Acacia’s voice was sweet and smug, “Things are looking up for me now. I’ve regai ned Thaddeus’s trust. He’s been by my side these past few days. And Mr. Frederi c has agreed to our marriage. We should be engaged soon.”

Engaged?

Ca**ius frowned, casting a worried glance at his sister.

But Evadne seemed indifferent, even yawning.

Seeing his sister’s reaction, Ca**ius was rea**ured,

“Now that you and Thaddeus are a thing, what about the 500 grand?”

“What’s the rush!” Acacia sounded very impatient, “Are you hounding me for that small amount? I’ll wire you 50 grand for now. Once things with Mr. Th addeus are settled and the engagement ceremony is over, I’ll give you the rest.”

“So do I still need to take care of Evadne?”

“Just teach her a lesson.”

Chapter 139

Acacia’s voice was lazy and malicious, “She’s made my life difficult. I want her to spend the rest of her life in pain. If not crip ple her, at least ruin her beautiful face!”

The call ended.

Acacia’s vicious words had scared George.

Yet, Evadne was calm as could be. This woman’s nerves were truly something.

“You did well, you can rest now. I’ll call you if I need anything.”

Just then, Evadne’s phone rang. It was Jason.

She turned to answer it, being the first to leave the basement.

The moment Evadne left, the atmosphere shifted.

George’s eyes bulged in terror as Ca**ius approached him.

The tall, noble man slowly leaned in.

A silver cross fell from the lapel of his suit, swinging before his eyes like the swo rd that was about to end his life.

Ca**ius did nothing, yet George was scared out of his wits, as if death itself stood behin d him.

“My sister was hurt because of you,” Ca**ius said quietly, anger fiashing in his ey es.

“I’m sorry.” Ca**ius shook his head and closed his eyes in a sincere prayer, “Merc iful God, please forgive my sins. All I do is for those I love.”

No sooner than he finished speaking, a fiash of silver fiew past George’s eyes.

Then a scream echoed through the basement.

Ca**ius had cleanly severed his hand with the cross.

In the empty lot.

Jason stood alone in the cold wind, his handsome face pale and weak.

“Jason, why are you here?” Evadne noticed his sickly look and quickly went over to him.

Red–eyed, Jason stared at Evadne and said in a trembling voice, “I’m sorry.”
