Chapter 104

Enzo:

Το say that I was furious would not be an understatement.

Now, I knew that the man would stoop low, but this was far beyond that, and I knew that IF he wasn’t stopped, then he was going to be doing more than what he was.

“Alaria…”

“We are going to need to get out,” she said, and I nodded. I didn’t need to be told tw ice, but right now, I knew that we were going to have to be careful. One wrong move could not only cost our lives, but also As hton’s. And I was going to kill anyone who dared lay a finger on my

son.

“Mama…

“Shh, baby.” She whispered, assuring him. I looked at his teary face as I held hi m in my arms, and I watched as she extended a hand to him, kissing his knuckle .

“We’ll get you out of here, my little champion. But I am going to need you to be strong.” I said, and he nodded. I kissed his temple as I wiped his tears, and it wa sn’t until I took sight of his maid that my heart clenched. The woman was dead.

I covered Ashton’s face, not wanting him to see her body before I looked at Alari a. The two of us shared the ssilent message, we knew that things weren’t going to be easy. B ut we were going to have to manage them our way.

We ran out of the room without making much noise, making sure to use the muffiing sound of the fire to blur our steps out. At this point, I knew that Jacob was well aware of where we were, one of the reasons why we a voided all windows. He would have his eyes there, waiting for us to make the mi stake of showing our faces. And that wasn’t something that I aimed to give him.

I looked at the door, knowing that someone would be outside. I looked at Ashto n for a moment, the child wasn’t supposed to be here. Jacob was sick for involvi ng him right now, and I was going to be sure that he paid for it.

“Ashton, you’re going to keep your eyes closed, okay?” I asked, and he frowned i n confusion. “Think of it as a game, one that you are not going to want to lose. I don’t want you to open your eyes.”

“Okay.” He said, and I handed him to Alaria. She shook her head in question, an d I nodded toward the door. The one way out of here was this door, but I wasn’t dumb, I knew that even thinking of openin g it wasn’t going to be smart. The men would not only be waiting for us,

but there were fire, and the frightened humans to deal with too. At this point, an ywhere safe from the fire was going to be worth trying, and I knew that one of them was inside the house, toward the windows.

I grabbed a chair and threw it at the door. The force knocked it down, but also t he gush of sudden wind brought in heat, and the fiames. The men who were stan ding by the door, guarding it, waiting for us to cout to attack, burned alive. Their eyes widened in surprise at the burning fiames, and I looked at them. I co uld spare them, but I wasn’t going to be dumb, even touching them was going to be fatal right now.

Alaria’s eyes were fixed on the burning bodies, and I wrapped my arm around h er waist, pulling her toward the door, snapping her out of her momentary daze.

Our hearts raced, and though I took sight of the fire escapes, they were packed with lines of humans still trying to escape, I knew that the moment we tried pas sing through, we would be dead.

“Any better idea, Enzo?”

“We are going to fight our way through.” I said, and she frowned.

“Enzo, we have Ashton…”

“And that is why we are going to need to get out of this alive,” I said, stopping he r. I looked at the man who ran toward us with a knife before grabbing his wrist, s topping him as I twisted his wrist. Alaria put her hand on Ashton’s head, making sure that he doesn’t turn to see what was happening as I pushed the knife insid e the man’s neck, cutting his throat. His body dropped and he gurgled on his ow n blood, but I couldn’t wait to see whether or not he took his last breath. The fir e would eat his body anyway.

“Right,” Alaria said, makingfrown in confusion.

“The door…”

“We’re taking the underground passage. The kitchen is there, it would be safe of the fiames,” she said, and I nodded. “We might have to fight those who would b e waiting for us, but it is going to be safer than here.”

“Mama, I’m scared.” Ashton said, coughing as he tried to gain his breath. The am ount of smoke that we were inhaling was one that I knew would be fatal in norm al circumstances, but I knew that we were going to have to fight. Stopping now w asn’t going to help us with anything.

“I know, baby. We are going to get you out of here, but you are going to need to be strong for me.” She said, and he coughed again. I could tell that she was struggling to hold her own coughs, and I had to admit, so was I. “Con, w e have to get out of here.”

We followed the path that she suggested, and we ran toward the restaurant. Most of it was still intact despite the broken chairs, tables, glasses, and plates; but that was done by people. The fire was yet to get here, or there was a certain ventilation point t hat stopped it.

“We are going to need to take the underground…”

“Did you really believe that it would be that easy, Enzo?” Damon asked, raising an amused eyebrow. He crossed his arms over his chest as he walked toward us, his eyes studying my expression before he looked at Alaria. “We can make a de al though…”

“You…”

“Now, now, I don’t think that cursing in front of the child would be very appropriate.” He said , stopping me, knowing that I would not only be cursing him, even breaking his face was going to be an easy punishment for a man like him. “Plus, you’re yet to even hear my proposal. And I think that it is going to be one that can be considered fair…”

He looked at Alaria for a moment before raising his gun at me. “She can run to s ave herself and her son, but you have to die…”
